The Bluff, Hayle is one of those epic spots that get talked about in watersport circles, it presents a wide range of conditions in all wind and swell directions, from perfect flat water to pumping surf throughout the year.

The spot is situated at the mouth of the River Hayle, is best ridden during outgoing tides a few hours before low tide. This spot offers a variety of rideable conditions, from smooth flat waters to rolling waves. For those seeking larger waves, head slightly north to Gwithian, which is part of the same stretch of beach.

From a Kitesurf perspective The first thing to note if you would like to Kitesurf at Hayle - The Bluff, is that you will need to follow the code of conduct which enables kitesurfers to return.
You must be a BKSA member, a level 2 kitesurfer and hold a valid Bluff Pass which can be picked up from Down the Line, CS Watersports Academy or Lodey Sails.

For twintip riders this is one, if not only Cornwalls, and the UK best kitesurfing locations. With an outgoing tide that works well for some wind vs tide action, offers more power on those lighter wind days. As well as the current flat water lagoons on the Hayle side of the estuary.
These lagoons do change with the big tidal range, but often you will find some perfect conditions for free ride, freestyle and on its day Hayle also offers some fantastic wave riding conditions!

Hayle works on wind directions from WNW around to NE through North, with Northerly being the best direction to make use of the estuary and lagoons.

Please check the BKSA/Kernow Kitesurfing Club and CS Watersports Academy website for the full code of conduct prior to visiting.
There is to be no teaching unless on a course with CS Watersports Academy who are the only lesson provider in Hayle.

For Wingers:
